National Guard Modernization

THE PROBLEM:

The National Guard often operates with older model equipment. Specifically, the Guard flies some of the oldest model of Black Hawk helicopters in the inventory.  In recent months, these Guard air crews have been flying many more missions in support of hurricane relief with, in some cases, 40 year old helicopters that are not as capable as newer models.  Newer modernized models increase the Guard’s ability to accomplish their mission safely and efficiently.

WHAT WE ARE DOING TODAY:

Today, additional helicopter upgrades are on hold due to the CR.  These upgrades include vital cockpit updates that enhance the pilot’s capabilities and provides safer instruments to fly with.

WHAT WE COULD BE DOING:

The House passed NDAA provides an additional $116.0 million for National Guard helicopter modernization which directly impacts aircrews flying today and everyday across the nation and around the globe in their missions.
