WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Chairman Thornberry (R-TX), of the House Armed Services Committee, spoke with Fox News about the challenges of North Korean talks as well as the security implications found in Africa. Read some of the highlights and watch the interview below:
On North Korea:
"North Korea is trying to divide us from our allies in South Korea. They are trying to get sanctions eased... trying to weaken our resolve to stand up to them."
"Don't ease sanctions just so that they will come to the table and start talking, that's the tactic they've used over the years to great effect."
"The other thing that's really changed is that we have put significant missile defense and other things in that area. So, standing up to North Korea militarily is the thing that sends them the clearest message of all."
"None of us should be diluted into thinking these people have changed their stripes."
On Africa:
"But the threat from terrorism has not gone away. And what's happened as we have squeezed ISIS down in Iraq and Syria, some of those terrorists have squirted out to the other places...that's Africa."
"There are terrorist threats all over Africa. What we're trying to do is work with those countries to take care of their own problem but it is something we can't lost site of."
