Hunter: New Report Confirms America’s Defense Industrial Base Is Being Exported to China

Washington, D.C. --- U.S. Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA), senior Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, today called attention to a newly-released annual report to Congress showing that the U.S. defense industrial base is being exported offshore to China.  The report, which was released by the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, outlines the national security implications of the bilateral trade and economic relationship between the United States and the People’s Republic of China.

Rep. Hunter released the following statement today on the U.S.-China Commission’s report:

“The U.S.-China Commission report validates my concerns that America’s defense industrial base is moving to China.

“China is using American trade dollars to arm at the same time the Department of Defense is failing to monitor the outsourcing of critical American military components.

“It’s clear to me that our military industrial base is a key element to national security and the mass hemorrhaging of American industry to China must be stemmed or there will be a damaging effect to our national security interests.

“This report also validates the critical need to end China’s currency devaluation.  It’s more important than ever to support the Hunter-Ryan legislation that would end this unfair trade tactic.”
