Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-AL), released the following statement on news that there are still at least 450 Americans trying to escape Taliban-controlled Afghanistan nearly two months after President Biden’s arbitrary withdrawal date.

“Yesterday, the Biden Administration admitted what every American already knew: they left Americans behind in Afghanistan.

“For two months now, President Biden and Secretary Blinken have told the American people that their withdrawal was a success. In fact, it wasn’t. Their admission that at least 450 Americans are still trying to escape Taliban-controlled Afghanistan after abandoning them is a reminder of just how badly they handled this disaster.

“Congress and the American people deserve to know exactly how many American citizens and partners are hiding and awaiting evacuation. We deserve to know why President Biden deceived the American people about the number of Americans in Afghanistan. And we still want to know what the counterterrorism plan is for Afghanistan.”
