Washington, DC - U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-AL), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, released a statement following reports that the United States and Germany have reached a deal on Nord Stream 2.
“Nord Stream 2 is a corrupt geopolitical project being run by ex-intelligence officers and Putin cronies – it will be used to enrich Putin, divide NATO, and dismember Ukraine. The fact that it’s being forced upon Ukraine the same week Putin gives a speech on ‘The Historical Unity’ of Russia and Ukraine is the epitome of tone deaf and it is the epitome of weakness that this administration refuses to impose the legally required sanctions. I encourage all of our allies to continue to engage with Congress on this and other matters of national security – my door is open for them to do so.”
