Press Release

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-AL), Lead Republican of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the terrorist attack that killed 13 U.S. servicemembers at Hamid Karzai International Airport on August 26, 2021 in Kabul, Afghanistan.

“On August 26th, 2021, 13 servicemembers lost their lives in a terrorist attack at Hamid Karzai International Airport. As a nation, we ask our servicemembers to defend freedom and fight evil across the globe. These brave men and women answered that call, and our nation will never forget their bravery and sacrifice.

“We still lack answers from the Biden Administration on why military advice was ignored, why the withdrawal was based on a date and not the reality on the ground, and why no one has been held accountable for the security failures that led to the bombing one year ago. Those responsible for the failures that led to the loss of American lives must be held accountable and I will continue to push to ensure that they are.”
