ROGERS URGES IMMEDIATE PASSAGE OF GUARD ACT

Press Release
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-AL), Lead Republican of the House Armed Services Committee, released a statement urging Congress to pass the Guaranteeing Ukrainian Autonomy by Reinforcing its Defense (GUARD) Act of 2022.

“President Biden continues to show weakness on the international stage. After the disaster that was the Afghanistan withdrawal, Putin is now testing our commitment to partners and allies. Putin shows no signs of backing down while the Biden administration has moved too slowly when it comes to supplying Ukraine with the weaponry it needs to deter Russia.

“If President Biden is unwilling to lead, then Congress must do so in his absence. The Speaker should immediately bring to the floor, and the House should pass the GUARD Act. This legislation would dramatically increase funding for lethal aid to Ukraine, specifically for anti-air and anti-ship weaponry, that the Ukrainians are requesting to deter Russia. I will continue to work with my colleagues to enact the strongest possible legislation to deter Putin’s aggression against Ukraine.”

Rogers joined Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), Lead Republican of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH), Lead Republican of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), House Republican Conference Chairwoman, in introducing the GUARD Act earlier this month.
