Thornberry Echoes Secretary Esper's Call To Avoid A CR

Press Release

Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee today echoed Secretary Esper’s call on Congress to pass the FY20 NDAA and Defense Appropriations before the end of the Fiscal Year.

“Our troops have been held hostage to protracted political fights for too long. Those fights, and the inadequate budgets they produced, contributed to a readiness crisis we are only now beginning to repair. The budget deal passed last month promised to avoid wasteful stopgap spending measures and fund our troops on time for the second year in a row. Even though the agreement did not give our military all the funding I believe they need, I supported it because of the incredible benefits that come from stable and predictable funding. Secretary Esper is right, continuing resolutions ‘harm our military readiness and stifle our modernization efforts.’ I join his call to avoid another CR.”
