H.R. 6395 Passes House 295-125

WASHINGTON- Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, made the following statement after the House passed the FY21 NDAA by a vote of 295-125:

“For sixty years Congress has laid partisan politics aside and come together to provide America’s men and women in uniform, and their families, the resources they need to keep the country safe. I am proud to say that after days of debate and consideration of more than a thousand amendments, we have crafted a bi-partisan bill to support our troops and our security. Across the Capitol, our colleagues in the Senate are doing the same. Notably, the House rejected efforts to impose devastating cuts to the military and to initiate a premature withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“This bill makes military families more secure, advances critical Pentagon reforms, and establishes programs to confront Russia and China. We still have disagreements. I remain concerned about the consequences of a number of the amendments the House adopted and hope that we can further perfect them in Conference. None of those disagreements is insurmountable, and there is nothing in this bill that we should not be able to resolve before the end of the Fiscal Year.

“While we have an extraordinary track record of passing the NDAA, our record of getting our work done on time is not as sterling. The wasteful continuing resolutions we have consequently imposed on the military have done real damage to the force. We must avoid that fate this year and pass the conference report on time.”
