Press Release

WASHINGTON- Rep. Mac Thornberry, Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, made the following statement on the resignation of Acting Secretary of the Navy Modly:

"These are challenging times for our men and women in uniform, as for the rest of us. Not only are many of our service members being asked to pitch in against the Coronavirus here at home, they must try to stay healthy themselves and also be ready to meet any national security threat that may try to take advantage of the situation. We should all be proud of how they are rising to the occasion.

"All of our service members, including our Sailors, deserve to be able to do their best on the tasks assigned to them without unnecessary distractions. The change in the office of the Secretary of the Navy should allow the country to put this episode behind us and allow Sailors to focus on the very important missions at hand."
