Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC -  Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, and Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH) Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Strategic Forces, made the following statement on the Strategic Forces Subcommittee Proposal for the FY20 NDAA.  Known as the "Chairman's Mark" the proposal will be released by the Armed Services Committee today.  The Subcommittee on Strategic Forces will meet to consider the proposal tomorrow, June 4th, at 3:30 PM in room 2118.  Congressmen Thornberry and Turner said:

“This is a partisan and irresponsible subcommittee mark that makes us less safe, hinders our ability to defend ourselves, weakens our ability to deter our adversaries, and therefore enables them to challenge us. This subcommittee mark is a significant departure from the Armed Services Committee’s tradition of bipartisanship. We hope that the full committee markup works in a continued bipartisan basis to support our men and women of the armed forces. It is clear that this subcommittee markup does not meet that standard.”
