Washington, D.C.—U.S. Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-Calif.) today highlighted the sentencing of Guantanamo detainee Omar Khadr as a validation for the Department of Defense’s military commission judicial system. McKeon, the Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, also called on the President to shift the Administration’s focus to prosecuting Guantanamo detainees in military commissions instead of U.S. civilian courts.
Washington, D.C.—Amid media reports that some states have failed to mail ballots to U.S. military personnel stationed overseas in a timely manner, U.S. House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-Calif.) today called on state governments which failed to comply with federal voting laws to hold open impacted elections until military ballots can be collected and counted.

"Buck" McKeon (R-Calif.), the Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, today called on the President and his Administration to immediately file a motion to stay an injunction issued by a federal judge which stops the enforcement of the Department of Defense’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.
McKeon’s statement follows:
“We are a nation at war. This decision could have a negative impact on military and family readiness since the Department of Defense is unprepared to address the issues that are bound to arise from such a hasty change.
