Washington D.C. –U.S. Congressman J. Randy Forbes (R-VA), the Ranking Member for the Readiness Subcommittee, released the following prepared remarks for the subcommittee’s hearing on the proposed reconfiguration of the National Defense Stockpile:

Washington, D.C. – Following a fact-finding trip yesterday to inspect the terrorist detention facilities at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-CA) today criticized the President’s decision to delay the deadline for the final recommendations from the Detainee Task Force on the Administration’s terrorist detention policy.  McKeon pointed to an Armed Services Committee hearing scheduled for Friday as the first opportunity for Members to question high-ranking Administration officials on the delayed report.

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. House Armed Services Committee today held a hearing to study possible reforms to the judicial system used by the United States to prosecute terrorists for war crimes, which was created in the Military Commissions Act of 2006.  Ranking Member Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-CA), highlighting the need for ‘preventive detention’, released the following opening statement for the hearing:

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. House Armed Services Committee today held a hearing to explore the Administration’s efforts to address a new generation of threats from weapons of mass destruction (WMD) through the Department of Energy’s nonproliferation programs and the Department of Defense’s Cooperative Threat Reduction program.  Citing North Korea’s recent actions, Ranking Member Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-CA) called attention to and questioned the decision to earmark $80 million for the disarmament and disabling of the regime’s nuclear program.  Mr. McKeon released the following opening statement for the hearing:
