Washington D.C. – During consideration of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2009, Republicans on the House Armed Services Committee successfully added $422 million in advanced procurement funding for a second Virginia Class submarine to be built in Fiscal Year 2011, allowing the Navy to add one submarine to the inventory above its current shipbuilding plan.  The defense authorization bill currently has $722 million in advanced procurement funding for two submarines to be built in Fiscal Year 2010 and Fiscal Year 2011.
